Lower Twin Lakes Campground sits at about 7,000 feet on Robinson Creek just below Lower Twin Lake, roughly a 10-mile drive from Bridgeport off Highway 395 and Twin Lakes Road, with a brief crossing of the South Twin Road bridge to reach the site. Massive Jeffrey pines stand over the looped campsites, with pockets of aspens, sagebrush and summer wildflowers along the creekbanks, and both Upper and Lower Twin Lakes within easy walking distance. The lakes provide boating and canoeing from a public boat ramp and beach about a half-mile away, and anglers will find Kokanee salmon and rainbow and brown trout in the lakes while Robinson Creek, which runs through the campground, fishes well for rainbow trout. Numerous hiking and horseback trails start nearby including the Robinson Creek Trail and the Twin Lakes access is also a gateway to longer routes into the Hoover Wilderness. On summer weekends between July 4 and Labor Day, educational programs are presented at the nearby Robinson Creek South Campground amphitheater. Facilities at Lower Twin Lakes are straightforward and campsite types and counts are clearly defined: there are 15 total sites, 10 of which accommodate both RVs and tents, 1 RV-only site and 4 tent-only sites. Roads and parking spurs are paved, individual sites include picnic tables, food-storage lockers and fire rings with grills, and the campground offers flush toilets, drinking water and trash collection; firewood is available from the on-site host. Because this campground sits within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, a wide range of regional activities biking, climbing, fishing, hiking, horse camping and horseback riding, hunting, OHV use, picnicking, RV camping, wildlife viewing and winter sports are available in the surrounding area, though specific services and access vary by trail or trailhead. For up-to-date information on fees, reservations and seasonal openings, contact the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest headquarters or the local campground host before you go.
