“Best place to camp, fishing is great, and the camp host is the best”
“Fantastic visit. Fishing was the best ever. The camp host (Kemo) was great. Good camp site. Water, trash, outhouse close. Will be back next summer.”
“As always, love camping at Trumbull Lake. Even though it rained every day, we were still able to get out and hike and enjoy the beauty of the area. Kimo, the camp host, was fantastic. Very friendly and helpful and keeps the campground in perfect condition!”

Perched at 9,980 feet on the shore of a roughly 100-acre Trumbull Lake, Trumbull Lake Campground sits among a stand of lodgepole pines with aspens and summer wildflowers scattered along the edges of the campsites. The lake is one of ten alpine lakes in the area and is the main draw here: you can canoe on quiet water and fish for rainbow, brown and brook trout right from shore. Trails around the Virginia Lakes area begin nearby, including the Virginia Lake Trail that leads into the Hoover Wilderness and provides routes that connect with broader backcountry travel toward Yosemite National Park; Bodie State Historic Park is also within easy reach for a day visit. The campground holds 29 campsites in total 28 that accommodate both RVs and tents and one site designated for RVs only and site sizes vary from single to double, with one triple site among them; a handful of sites sit close enough to offer partial lake views. Facilities are straightforward and oriented to low-impact, self-sufficient camping: each site has a picnic table, food-storage locker and a campfire ring with a grill, and vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided in the loop. Roads and parking spurs are dirt, and firewood can be purchased from the host, so expect a more rustic drive-in experience once you leave Highway 395. To reach Trumbull Lake from the Bridgeport area, head south on Highway 395 past Conway Summit and follow Forest Road 21 for about six miles the pavement gives way to gravel before the campground entrance. Beyond on-site canoeing and fishing, the surrounding Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest supports a broad range of outdoor pursuits including biking, climbing, hiking, horseback riding and horse camping, OHV use, hunting, winter sports, wildlife viewing and general picnicking and RV camping.
