“Great host. Clean restrooms. Quiet area. Adjacent to good hiking and beautiful views. While there is no water at this site, we knew that going in so it wasn’t a problem.”

Green Creek Group sits at roughly 7,500 feet and is about 12 miles from Bridgeport, California, reached by a short stretch of Highway 395 and then a narrow, nine-mile dirt forest road (Forest Road 142) that leads just past the trailhead parking to the campground entrance. The site is set between the creek and a rocky outcrop in a stand of tall Jeffrey pines that cast partial shade; aspens, juniper, sagebrush and summer wildflowers punctuate the meadows nearby. This is a primitive setup with two group sites (total campsites: 2) sized for groups of about 25 and 30 people; both sites accommodate RVs and tents. Each group area includes large picnic tables, a campfire circle with grills, and food storage lockers, while basic amenities on site are vault toilets and trash collection. Roads and parking spurs are dirt, so plan for slower travel into and out of the campground and bring what you need for a backcountry-style stay. Recreation is immediate: Green Creek runs alongside the campground and is a local spot for rainbow trout fishing that you can reach on foot from the campsites, and the Green Creek Trail is accessible just outside the campground entrance. That trail supports both hiking and horseback riding and leads up to Green Lake and onward to East Lake, where rugged peaks ring larger alpine basins and offer more remote fishing and high-country day trips. Beyond the immediate area, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest supports a wide range of uses biking, climbing, horse camping, hunting, OHV use, winter sports and wildlife viewing among them so this site makes a practical base for varied outdoor objectives. Specifics on fees, reservations and seasonal access aren't listed here, so check with Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest headquarters or their recreation page before you go for up-to-date conditions and any reservation requirements.
