Robinson Creek South sits along its namesake creek about 9 miles south of Bridgeport, California, accessed via Twin Lakes Road off U.S. 395. At roughly 7,000 feet elevation a stand of large Jeffrey pines and scattered lodgepole pines shade the sites and frame views of sagebrush meadows and summer wildflowers. The campground contains 25 single sites in total: 14 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, 3 RV-only sites, and 8 tent-only sites. Each site includes a picnic table, a food storage locker and a campfire ring with a grill; vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided, and the host sells firewood. An amphitheater on-site hosts educational programs on weekends from July 4 through Labor Day, and Robinson Creek North Campground is immediately adjacent for overflow or group needs. Recreational opportunities start at the campsite: Robinson Creek runs through the loop and offers accessible rainbow trout fishing right from within the campground, and several trailheads, including the Robinson Creek Trail, are nearby for day hikes. A short drive brings you to Upper and Lower Twin Lakes, where boating and canoeing are common and anglers pursue kokanee salmon as well as rainbow and brown trout; the Twin Lakes area is also the usual approach into the Hoover Wilderness for longer hikes and horseback trips. Beyond the immediate area, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest supports a wide range of activities biking, climbing, horse camping and riding, hunting, OHV use, wildlife viewing and winter sports among them so plan according to your interests. Because conditions and management (fees, reservations and seasonal openings) can change, check with the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest Headquarters before you go.
