Cold Creek Campground sits right on Highway 89 about 4.5 miles south of Sierraville, on a stretch of meadow wedged between the road and Cold Creek. The site is small 13 total campsites laid out where roughly half the loops sit under Jeffrey pine and white fir and the other half edge down toward the creek among cottonwood, willow and aspen. Ten of the sites can accommodate both small RVs and tents, while three are tent-only, including a couple of true hike-in sites that share a small parking area toward the back of the facility. Each single-family site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring, and the campground provides vault toilets; water hookups, showers and other developed hookups are not listed, and the narrow entry/exit means large RVs will not be able to make the turnaround here. Recreation at Cold Creek is straightforward and low-key: the creek offers opportunities for rainbow trout fishing and casual swimming, and the campground is a convenient base for hiking and mountain biking in Tahoe National Forest. Cottonwood Creek Botanical Trail and the Overlook Trail begin at nearby Cottonwood Creek Campground, and larger destinations are within day-trip distance Lake Tahoe is about 35 minutes away for boating or shoreline hiking, the Lakes Basin and Sardine Lakes are roughly 35 minutes to the northwest, and Stampede Reservoir is about 45 minutes southeast. Because the facility is small and maintained by the Tahoe National Forest, check with the forest service for current fees, reservation rules and seasonal openings before you go; plan on rustic amenities and tight turning room so pack and rig accordingly for tent camping or a small camper.
