“No hook-ups at all, but the campsites along the water are absolutely stunning! There’s plenty of space between sites, and everyone we met was super friendly. But when they say there are bears in the campsite — believe them! There are bears in the campsite!”
“Beautiful campground. Even though there are a lot of sites and they can be close to each other, I still enjoyed my stay there. Plenty of toilets and water stations. Host was very helpful. ”

Logger Campground sits on the south shore of Stampede Reservoir in the Tahoe National Forest, about a half-hour drive from Truckee. The site is shaded by a mix of ponderosa and Jeffrey pines and firs, with sagebrush dotting the forest floor and the reservoir's open water just steps away. Stampede is a working recreational reservoir on the Little Truckee River, so water-based activities dominate here: a boat ramp and trailer parking are available less than a mile from the campground, and the reservoir sees regular boating, water skiing, swimming and bank fishing for rainbow and brown trout and kokanee salmon. Inland, many miles of hiking and off-road vehicle trails thread the surrounding hills; the Overland Emigrant Commemorative Trail passes nearby and is open to hikers and mountain bikers. If you need services or side trips, Boca Reservoir is about 10 minutes to the south, Truckee is roughly 30 minutes away for groceries, gas and restaurants, and Lake Tahoe is about an hour's drive for expanded recreation and lodging options. The campground can be reached from Interstate 80 via Hirschdale/Stampede Dam Road to Dog Valley Road (over the dam), and there's an alternate route from Highway 89 via Hobart Mills Road and Dog Valley Road that includes some gravel sections. The campground contains 199 campsites in six loops Cross Cut, Iron Ox, Steam Donkey, Whistle Punk, Ox Bow and Double Bit with 198 sites configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and one tent-only site. Sites come with picnic tables and campfire rings with grills; vault toilets and drinking water are provided within the campground. An amphitheater sits inside the camp boundary and is reachable by car or via the shoreline hiking trail. A dump station is located a quarter mile from the campground entrance; the fee is $10 per dump (credit card only). Logger Campground is operated and maintained by the Tahoe National Forest, so check the forest's campground page for current reservation requirements, seasonal opening dates and any additional fees before you go.
