“Beautiful campground. The host John is awesome.”
“Great campground. Not a lot of tree shade so bring something for shade. The camp host keeps the place in tip top shape and is very accommodating. ”
“It was a beautiful campground. I hate the amount of flys that were in the toilets but other than that I was ok. The camp host was a bit off putting.”

Boca Rest Campground sits on the northeastern shore of the 900-plus-acre Boca Reservoir where the lake narrows toward the Little Truckee River, placing many sites within easy reach of the water. The campground contains 38 single-family campsites all 38 are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and a handful of those sites are right on the waterfront. Sites are well spaced for privacy but are mostly in open, sagebrush-dotted terrain with only a few scattered pines, so shade is limited; expect mostly sun-exposed sites, each supplied with a picnic table and metal campfire ring. Basic services at the loop include vault toilets and potable drinking water, and vehicle access from Interstate 80 is straightforward: from either Truckee or Reno take the Hirschdale Exit and follow Hirschdale Road north about three miles to the campground. The Forest Service operates and maintains the facility, so check with Tahoe National Forest for current fees, reservation options, and seasonal opening dates before you go. Recreation at Boca is dominated by water: Boca Reservoir supports boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing, with a developed boat ramp on the reservoir's west shore and an unimproved launching area just south of the campground. The nearby Little Truckee River is known for catch-and-release fly-fishing, and the surrounding public lands offer hiking, biking, horseback riding, and numerous OHV routes including the Prosser Pits area and other trails plus interpretive hiking on the Boca Townsite trail that traces the area's railroad and ice-mill history. Stampede Reservoir is nine miles to the north and Lake Tahoe about 30 minutes away for expanded boating, hiking, and services in Truckee (roughly 20 minutes). If you plan to ride or drive off-highway, be aware that heavy OHV use has caused resource damage in places; not all closed routes are gated, so consult the Motor Vehicle Use Map, stay on designated routes, and follow posted seasonal restrictions to help protect the forest.
