About

Boyington Mill Campground sits on the banks of the Little Truckee River roughly 20 minutes east of Truckee, reached from I-80 via the Hirschdale Road exit. The site is shaded by sparse Jeffrey pine and fir, so campsites feel open rather than forested; shade is limited. There are 12 single-family campsites in total nine sites configured for both RVs and tents and three tent-only sites each equipped with a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill. Facilities are basic: vault toilets are provided, but there is no drinking water at the campground, so plan to bring your own. The campground is operated and maintained by Tahoe National Forest, and the short drive from Truckee means you can reach groceries, gas, restaurants and lodging within about 20 minutes. The Little Truckee is one of Northern California's noted catch-and-release fly-fishing streams, with opportunities for rainbow and brown trout right from camp; fishing is the campground's signature summer activity. A few miles away, Boca and Stampede reservoirs offer boating, water skiing, swimming and additional fishing, and Lake Tahoe is about a 35-minute drive for expanded paddling, hiking and coastal amenities. The surrounding national forest has extensive hiking, mountain biking and off-highway vehicle trails, and nearby points of interest include the Historic Boca Townsite Interpretive Trail, Donner Camp Interpretive Trail and the Prosser Pits OHV area. Because services on site are minimal, come prepared with drinking water and supplies, and check with Tahoe National Forest for current conditions, road access, reservation or fee requirements and seasonal closures before you go.
