About

Upper Little Truckee Campground sits along the banks of the Little Truckee River at about 6,200 feet, shaded by stands of lodgepole pine, aspen and juniper. The small facility contains 22 total campsites; all 22 sites are set up to accommodate both RVs and tents, and each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided on site, and a few campsites back right up to the river for easy access and river views. Anglers come for rainbow and brown trout in the Little Truckee, while hikers and mountain bikers can roll out from camp onto nearby trails; the campground's location on Highway 89 makes it a practical base for hunting and broader Tahoe National Forest recreation as well. The campground is about 12 miles north of Truckee (roughly a 10 15 minute drive), and gives quick access to Lake Tahoe about 30 minutes to the south, Stampede Reservoir 35 minutes southeast, and Sardine Lakes in the Lakes Basin about 40 minutes northwest via the Golden Chain/Highway 49. Other regional attractions within easy reach include Donner Camp Interpretive Trail, Donner Memorial State Park and the Overland Emigrant Commemorative Trail, plus the year-round services of Truckee for groceries, gas and dining. This site is operated and maintained by Tahoe National Forest; specific fees, reservation policies and seasonal availability are not provided here, so check the Tahoe National Forest website or contact the district office for current information before you go.
