Dorabelle Campground sits above Shaver Lake at about 5,500 feet in a dense mix of fir, cedar and pine, with some sites tucked under thick canopy and others sitting in more open clearings that can offer partial views of the water. The facility has 60 campsites in total 42 that accommodate both RVs and tents and 18 tent-only sites each with a dirt parking spur, picnic table, fire ring and metal grill; drinking water and vault toilets are available nearby. You register at the campground entry station, and the site is reached from the Shaver Lake area via Dorabelle Road roughly a half-mile from the town; it lies about 49 miles from Clovis along Highway 168 to the Shaver Lake corridor. Nightly fees are $30 for a single site ($32 on holiday weekends) and $60 for a double site ($64 on holiday weekends), so plan accordingly for holiday demand and bring cash or card as required by the entry system. Dorabelle is a practical base for exploring the variety of outdoor options around Shaver Lake: five trailheads are reachable from the campground (Dinkey Road 0.5 mi, Musick Meadow 0.75 mi, Peninsula Loop 1 mi, Burr Meadow 1.5 mi and Osprey Cove 2 mi), and horseback riding is available nearby. Boats can be moored close to the campground and many water activities are centered on the lake swimming, motorized boating, kayaking, water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing, sailing and fishing for kokanee salmon, rainbow and brown trout, smallmouth bass, catfish and bluegill. Beyond Dorabelle, the Sierra National Forest offers additional experiences such as overnight stays in fire lookouts or cabins and extensive hiking across middle-elevation forests and higher alpine terrain. For reservations, cancellations and on-site policies note that a cancellation the day before or day of arrival incurs a $10 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's use fee (one-night reservations forfeit the entire amount); cabin or lookout cancellations made less than 14 days out carry the same $10 fee plus first-night forfeiture, and no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee in addition to forfeiting the first night's fee. For facility-specific questions call (559) 841-3533.
