About

Dinkey Creek sits along its namesake stream beneath a stand of Ponderosa pine and cedar in the Sierra National Forest, reachable by driving east from Clovis on Highway 168 toward Shaver Lake and then southeast about 13 miles on Dinkey Creek Road. The campground contains 122 campsites in total: 70 sites are configured for both RVs and tents while 52 are tent-only, spread across nine loops (Loop B: 17 sites; Loop C: 16; Loop E: 27; Loop F: 15; Loop G: 16; Loop H: 10; Loop I: 6; Loop J: 7; Loop K: 7). Most sites have paved spurs, a picnic table and a fire grill; drinking water is available and both vault and flush toilets are provided, with accessible sites on hand. There's a group site for up to 50 people, an on-site amphitheater that hosts educational programs on summer weekends, and a large sandy picnic flat above the creek at the campground's north end useful details for families or organized groups planning meals and activities. For questions about the facility call (559) 841-2705 and for reservations use Recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777. Recreation at Dinkey Creek centers on water and trail access: two granite-carved swimming pools known locally as The Slicks and Honeymoon Pool offer shallow, natural spots for wading and cooling off, and anglers will find brown and rainbow trout in the creek. Hikers can follow the Dinkey Creek Trail and mountain bikers have nearby trail access; at a broader scale the Sierra National Forest supports activities such as overnight stays in fire lookouts or cabins and extensive hiking opportunities. McKinley Grove, with its giant redwoods, is about six miles away for a different landscape and easy day visits. Practical booking details matter here: individual campsites are typically bookable up to six months in advance and group sites up to 12 months; changes or cancellations carry a $10 service fee and late cancellations or no-shows can forfeit the first night's fee or incur additional charges review the specific Recreation.gov facility page for exact policies and check current road and weather conditions before you go.
