About

Rancheria Campground sits on the shores of Huntington Lake under a dense canopy of fir and pine, with several tent-only sites placed right at the water's edge where informal boat mooring is permitted. The looped campground contains 127 sites in total: 66 sites that can accommodate both RVs and tents and 61 tent-only sites. Most sites are standard design with a dirt parking spur, picnic table, campfire ring and grill; a number of walk-to tent sites offer a quieter, more immediate lakeside experience. The campground office at Eastwood is the check-in point plan to stop there before you set up and the road in from Clovis follows Highway 168 north for about 70 miles. On-site services include drinking water, a pay phone, accessible flush and vault restrooms, and space for RVs up to 40 feet. An amphitheater hosts campfire programs on summer weekends and a small museum adjacent to the campground interprets local history, early Native American inhabitants and Forest Service activity in the area. The location is an excellent base for both water-based recreation and trail exploration: Huntington Lake supports swimming, sailing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and water skiing, while nearby trails range from short walks Black Point (0.7 miles), Rancheria Falls (1 mile) and Indian Pools (1 mile) to longer excursions such as the 12-mile Kaiser Loop Trail, which links into the Kaiser Wilderness trail network. California Land Management runs summer interpretive programs and nature walks at several area sites. Practical details to plan around: reservations are handled through Recreation.gov (booking windows are generally six months in advance for individual sites and 12 months for group sites) and you can change or cancel reservations online or by calling 1-877-444-6777; a $10 service fee applies to most changes and cancellations and late cancellations or no-shows can incur additional forfeited use fees or a $20 service fee in some cases. For campground-specific questions, call the Huntington Lake office at (559) 893-2308. If you have extra time, the 84-mile Sierra Vista Scenic Byway (Highway 168) makes a popular day trip through the surrounding Sierra National Forest.
