Fish Creek Campground is a very small, primitive site in the Bass Lake Ranger District of Sierra National Forest at about 3,400 feet elevation. Note up front that the campground remains closed following the 2020 Creek Wildfire; check with the Forest Service for reopening dates, fees and reservation policies before planning a trip. When open, the loop contains just seven campsites total: four sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and three tent-only sites. Each unit provides a picnic table, a metal grill and a fire ring, and vault toilets are on site, but there is no drinking water campers must bring their own. The campground sits beside Fish Creek under stands of oak and pine and is reached from the general Bass Lake/North Fork area east of Fresno via Minarets Road; the nearby Mammoth Pool Resort offers gas, supplies and a pay phone if you need last-minute provisions. The setting is quiet and focused on simple forest recreation rather than developed amenities. Anglers can fish nearby waters and hikers have access to the French Trail, a 12.7-mile foot trail that runs between Squaw Dome and Logan Meadow trailheads; hunting is permitted in designated areas of the forest. The broader Bass Lake and Mammoth Pool Reservoir areas add options for boating and wildlife viewing, and the 83-mile Sierra Vista Scenic Byway provides a scenic driving loop through the district. Practical notes: bring potable water and any supplies you need, use the provided fire rings only when local fire restrictions allow, and contact the Bass Lake Ranger District or the Sierra National Forest website for current conditions, reservation procedures and seasonal information before heading out.
