Tuyen T ★ 2 · Oct 2025The host of the campground was very rude during our stay. Went to get a parking pass for the additional vehicle and was told to come back. We were told to move our RV because the way we parked it was not correct, even though there was space and it looked like a parking spot for RV. He came to our site twice asking about the music that was on during the day time but it was not our site that had music playing. It wasn't a great experience dealing with the host.
Jeff B ★ 2 · Sep 2025One of the worst camps I have experienced. Most sites are on the hillside, not level for table or tent. The loop road was rough, and had a pothole a yard wide and half a foot deep. The road to and out of camp was no picnic either. We were warned that we were in bear country, but there were no bear boxes -- other than our cars. The toilets were pretty good, with running water, flush toilets, and some of the best toilet paper I have experienced. The Bass Lake in general is worth experiencing. It only needed a better camp than WIshon, and I will try to find it.
Souvanny D ★ 3 · Sep 2025This was our first time camping here, and unfortunately, we won’t be returning. The positives were that the campsite was conveniently located near the water, and having a restaurant nearby was a nice bonus. However, several factors contributed to our decision not to come back. The camp host was quite rude and seemed to have an issue with our presence. He unfairly blamed us for playing music that we weren't even responsible for, and his frequent visits to our campsite made us feel like we were doing something wrong. We had kids with us and spent most of our time down by the water, so it was disheartening to feel unwelcome. Additionally, the roads were tight and narrow, making it difficult to navigate. Parking was a challenge, especially with the stumped markers that made it feel like we were double parking. There was simply no way to park more than two vehicles if you had a trailer. Overall, it wasn’t the experience we hoped for.

Wishon Bass Lake Campground sits at about 3,400 feet on the western slope of the central Sierra Nevada, directly across the road from Bass Lake. The camp's 47 sites are tucked among dense stands of manzanita, oak, cedar and pine, with thick undergrowth between sites that gives the loop a private, forested feel; 38 sites accommodate both RVs and tents while nine are tent-only. Many campsites come with the standard campground fixtures each has a picnic table, a stone fire pit and a pedestal grill and you'll find drinking water and flush toilets on site. Vehicle access is on dirt spurs that can be bumpy and occasionally tricky to maneuver, so larger rigs should plan accordingly; campground registration sits a few miles in from Forest Road 222, the route up from Highway 41 and Oakhurst. Just off the campground, Miller's Landing Resort provides pay showers, laundry, a small general store and a restaurant for supplies and a hot meal when you don't want to cook at your fire ring. The water is the draw here: Bass Lake has a beach and a boat ramp and supports swimming, motorized boating, sailing, water-skiing, kayaking/canoeing and fishing for bass, trout, bluegill and catfish. Hikers will find several nearby routes Willow Creek (2.7 miles), Goat Mountain (2.6 miles), Spring Cove (2.6 miles) and the one-mile Way-of-the-Mono Interpretive Trail and the ranger district runs weekend educational programs in the summer. Wishon lies about 24 miles from Yosemite's South Entrance, making it a quieter base for those heading toward the park. Reservations are handled through Recreation.gov (charges appear on statements as "Recreation.gov 877-444-6777"); sites can generally be reserved up to six months in advance (group sites up to 12 months). If you need to change or cancel a booking a $10 service fee applies, and reservations cancelled the day before or on the day of arrival forfeit the first night's use fee (single-night reservations forfeit the entire use fee). Late cancellations or no-shows can incur additional penalties (including a possible $20 service fee), and refund requests must be made within 14 days of your scheduled departure.
