“Plenty of shade, but also meat bees so be careful. Cute little creek with waterfall just up the street. Campground is small and our site was close to the road, so can be a little noisy at times. We were in space 2.”
“Beautiful forest setting, clean and well kept. Great camping experience ”
“this is an amazing place beautiful view and hiking to water fall just be prepared to be eating by mosquitos i know we are camping but there is a lot of mosquitos we skip to do the fire at night it was way too many.”

Chilkoot Campground sits beside the creek that gives it its name, shaded under a stand of Ponderosa pine, fir and cedar at an elevation of approximately 4,600 feet high enough to stay relatively cool on the hottest summer days. The setting is classic Sierra National Forest country: forested middle-elevation slopes that give way, within a short drive, to Bass Lake's busy shoreline and to higher mountain terrain. Bass Lake, a few miles away, is where most visitors go for motorized and non-motorized boating, sailing, water skiing, swimming and lake fishing; closer to camp you can cast in Chilkoot Creek for channel catfish, sucker and brown trout, hike the nearby Buena Vista trail or paddle on Willow Creek. Chilkoot's proximity also makes Yosemite National Park reachable in under an hour and puts the whitewater of the South Fork of the Merced River within easy day-trip range. The campground is small and rustic, with 20 campsites in total 14 units configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and 6 designated tent-only sites. Each campsite includes a gravel parking spur, picnic table and fire ring; a campground host is present and vault toilets are provided, but there is no potable water on site, so bring everything you need to drink and cook. Note that some sites sit on slopes and are not suitable for tent camping, so pick your site accordingly when reserving. Reservations are managed through Recreation.gov; be aware that once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation. To reach Chilkoot from the Fresno/Oakhurst area, follow Highway 41 toward Bass Lake and then take Forest Road 222 (the Bass Lake turnoff) and Beashore Road the final few miles to the campground.
