“The gentleman who takes care of the upkeep of Upper Billy does an amazing job. Arriving there, the campsite was clean and raked like it was a zen garden. Also the restrooms were spotless. That man takes great pride in his work and it shows!”
“Beautiful view, so much to see. Perfect campground. ”
“Our site was nice. The kids got to see some of the wildlife in the area. Fishing wasn't as great as in previous years but the kids had a ball in the water. Just make sure you take bug spray. Thankfully we did! ”

Upper Billy Creek Campground is currently closed until further notice due to hazard trees; check with the Sierra National Forest office before making plans. When open, the site sits across the road from Huntington Lake on the western slope of the central Sierra Nevada, with the Kaiser Wilderness and a network of mountain trails within easy reach. There are 36 campsites in total 29 that accept both RVs and tents and 7 tent-only sites arranged beneath stands of cedar, fir and pine. Some campsites look out over Huntington Lake while others drop down toward Billy Creek and seasonal wildflower meadows; parking spurs are dirt and many have significant slopes, so RV or trailer users should plan for leveling and limited maneuvering space. Each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring; the campground provides vault toilets, flush toilets and drinking water. Adjacent to the loop is the Billy Creek Guard Station Museum, which offers historical context on Huntington Lake, the Forest Service and local Native American history. The area around Upper Billy Creek is rich in day- and multi-day options: short nearby hikes include Rancheria Falls (about 1 mile), Indian Pools (about 1 mile) and Black Point (0.7 miles), while horseback riders and hikers can access the 12-mile Kaiser Loop Trail that connects into the Kaiser Wilderness. Huntington Lake itself supports swimming, sailing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and water skiing, and California Land Management sponsors summer interpretive programs and nature walks at several sites in the area, including the campground amphitheater (programs may be affected while the campground is closed). The 83-mile Sierra Vista Scenic Byway (Highway 168) is a recommended day drive from the Huntington Lake area. Reservations and policy details are handled through Recreation.gov (booking windows are generally six months for individual sites and 12 months for group sites); a $10 service fee applies to most changes and cancellations and late cancellations may also forfeit the first night's fee. For facility-specific status or questions call the Sierra National Forest at (559) 893-2308 and confirm current access before you head up Highway 168 from the Shaver Lake/Huntington Lake corridor.
