“The area for the parking in this group site was very small, and one of the three families could not fit there, and fortunately was able to move to another spot. Also, the campsite is primarily loose dirt, so be prepared for that.”

Pine Glen Campground sits just west of Mammoth Lakes off State Route 203, at the rear of New Shady Rest Campground near site #127, about 300 miles north of Los Angeles and 165 miles south of Reno. At an elevation of roughly 7,800 feet the campground is shaded by mature Jeffrey pines and provides 17 individual campsites; each of those 17 sites is configured to accommodate both RVs and tents. Basic facilities are provided on-site: flush toilets, picnic tables, campfire rings and trash bins, and firewood is available for purchase. If you need a dump station or showers they're not in the immediate loop but are located within a few miles in Mammoth Lakes. Reservations are accepted; note that once your reservation start date has begun neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify it, and fees and seasonal availability should be confirmed on Recreation.gov before you go. The campground is a practical launching point for the eastern Sierra's outdoor options. Trails for day hikes and mountain biking fan out from the Mammoth Lakes area, and nearby creeks and small lakes are productive trout fisheries a short drive away; off-road vehicle routes are also popular in the surrounding mountains. Within walking distance is a paved multiuse trail that links Pine Glen with adjacent campgrounds, Shady Rest Town Park and the visitor center in Mammoth, making it easy to pop into town for supplies or local events such as the Mammoth Lakes Jazz Jubilee in mid-July. For longer day trips, Yosemite National Park, Mono Basin and Devils Postpile National Monument are all commonly visited from Mammoth, so Pine Glen works well as a convenient, forested basecamp for both short outings and longer excursions.
