“Campground was super quiet and the camp hosts were great. Bathrooms were always very clean and stocked with toilet paper. We even received wood delivered to our site by our hosts. It was very hot and the water was too cold but the lake isn’t too far away. ”
“we had the most amazing time ever at ackerman. a magical place. will be returning”

Ackerman Campground sits on the western shore of Lewiston Lake at about 1,900 feet elevation, immediately below Trinity Dam, and the setting is defined by the lake's cold, clear water and a shoreline that shifts from marshy flats to forested slopes. The water body itself is roughly 610 acres (about 5 miles long and a half-mile wide) and supports good fishing for kokanee salmon and rainbow, brown and brook trout, which is one reason anglers favor this site. Two accessible boat ramps are close by Pine Cove on Lewiston Lake about 2 miles south and Fairview to Trinity Lake about 3 miles north and motorized boats are restricted to 10 mph. The campground is a handy base for lake-oriented activities: kayaking along the quiet coves, launching small boats, wildlife viewing from the shore, and a 2-mile North Lakeshore Trail for a short hike. In addition, the wider Shasta-Trinity National Forest supports a broad slate of pursuits auto touring, longer hikes and horseback rides, climbing, winter sports and more so Ackerman can be a quiet lakeside stop within a much larger recreation area. Practical details matter here: the campground has 50 total campsites and all 50 sites are configured for both RVs and tents, with each site furnished with a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill; parking spurs are grass or gravel and sites accept trailers/RVs up to 40 feet. Ackerman is open year-round to walk-ins, while reservations are accepted May 21st through September 10th (note there is an additional non-refundable $10 reservation fee for phone/online bookings). If you booked through Recreation.gov, call 1-877-444-6777 to request a refund; requests for a full refund must be made at least 14 days before your arrival (Recreation.gov fees are excluded). Cash or check refunds are issued by mailed check and processed within 30 days call 530-275-8113 for those transactions or for walk-up refund requests (the on-site host can also be contacted). In the event of emergency closure the reservation system will attempt to notify users and provide alternatives or refunds; refunds are not issued for naturally occurring events such as weather, low lake level, smoke or similar conditions. From Weaverville, the drive follows Highway 3 north and local forest roads roughly 23 24 miles toward the Trinity Dam/Lewiston Lake area.
