“We have been going there for years and this year the place was super dirty, trash was everywhere. Bathrooms were brought in for use because they had no water, but they didn’t bring in hand washing stations which was unacceptable. ”
“We love this camp ground especially when the lake is full. We have been going there for 10 years now. It is clean, has a fabulous middle group eating and hanging out area, the lake view is gorgeous, along with the hiking trail that leaves from camp. ”

Fawn Group Campground sits on the Stuart Fork arm of Trinity Lake, shaded by stands of oaks, Douglas firs and pines and offering direct access to the water. The setting is the low-elevation lakeshore of the vast Shasta-Trinity National Forest Lake Shasta itself is at about 1,067 feet and the shoreline here gives way to steep hills cloaked in manzanita and evergreen, with distant views of the snow-capped Mount Shasta on clear days. A boat ramp and marina are about a mile away and the nearby Stoney Creek Swim Area provides a sandy beach and picnic space, so days at camp tend to revolve around boating, fishing, swimming and other watersports; hiking and lakeside picnicking are also easy to work into an itinerary. The historic town of Weaverville, on the National Register of Historic Places and offering restaurants and shops, sits roughly 20 minutes away, with the camp reachable by following Highway 3 north from the Weaverville/299 corridor. Facilities at Fawn are organized for groups: each loop has bear-proof food lockers, multiple picnic tables and group fire grills, and the description notes 19 separate spurs per loop with Loops B and C able to accommodate up to about 100 people each. The campground roads are paved and the unpaved spurs are sized to handle tents and RVs in the 30 40 foot range; flush toilets and drinking water are provided. Be aware that the reservation listing currently shows TOTAL CAMPSITES: 2, both listed as suitable for RV and tent camping, so check availability before you go. Reservation and refund policies are handled through Recreation.gov: refunds must be requested no later than 14 days before arrival for a full refund (recreation.gov fees excluded) and an additional non-refundable $10 reservation fee applies to call-center and online bookings; call 1-877-444-6777 for recreation.gov refund requests, or 530-275-8113 for cash/check refund handling or questions about walk-up site refunds. In the larger forest you'll also find opportunities for auto touring, climbing, fire lookout and cabin overnight stays, horseback riding, hunting, winter sports and extensive hiking, making Fawn a practical base for a variety of outdoor plans.
