Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (4 reviews, ★ 4.0). Not written or edited by us.
“Campsites were nice and clean. We had been warned to bring our own water due to a situation with the Happy Camp town water supply. We saw the Rangers after we had checked out, and they were friendly and informative.”
“Bathrooms were very clean. Campground is very large and open. Also large (rafting, church) groups in summer so pretty noisy during the day. We had a large group and we’re able to accommodate everyone at the group site.”
“The car parking space was a bit more spacious than we anticipated (good job allowing yourselves to exceed expectations!). Bathrooms in good shape. Reservation cards are a joy to see when pulling up in the dark! Over all conditions were great. Thank you for being there!”

Curly Jack Campground sits at about 1,075 feet on the banks of the Klamath River just south of the small town of Happy Camp, on a short spur off Elk Creek Road/Curly Jack Road from Highway 96. The site is compact there are 16 total campsites, and all 16 are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and most sites are shaded and offer a view across the river toward town. In addition to single-family sites, the campground includes four group sites that each hold up to 30 people; those group areas provide dispersed tent camping space plus large gravel parking areas for extra vehicles and trailers. Because the campground functions as a put-in and take-out point for a Class III stretch of the Klamath, expect to carry boats across a gravel bar when launching or landing; the river access and proximity to the town make Curly Jack a convenient base for anglers and whitewater boaters. Recreation at Curly Jack centers on river activities and nearby trails: fishing, birding, hiking and whitewater boating are the most immediate options, and scenic drives along the State of Jefferson Scenic Byway are an easy day trip. Happy Camp is within walking distance and has a grocery store, restaurants, a whitewater rafting outfitter and several fishing guides, so you can arrange river trips or resupply without a long drive. The larger Klamath National Forest offers many other opportunities auto touring, biking, horseback riding and camping, OHV use, hunting, interpretive programs, swimming and wildlife viewing among them so Curly Jack can be a starting point for more varied outings. Practical details such as current fees, reservation options and seasonal availability change periodically; check the Klamath National Forest or the campground's current Forest Service information before you go, and be prepared for basic, river-focused camping rather than developed RV hookups or extensive on-site services.
