Robert B ★ 5 · Jul 2023The campground is way off the beaten path, but happened to be right along our route for a family road trip. We were floored by how kind and helpful the camp hosts were, and by how well kept the grounds were. Complimentary firewood delivered to our site was a nice added bonus, but mom being impressed by how clean the restrooms were was really the cherry on the top. The river was beautiful and we had a great time there. Only down-side, was that we were a few weeks early for the blackberries that were growing all along the river.
mark h ★ 5 · Jan 2020Nice location and facilities right next to the river.

Sarah Totten Campground sits alongside the Klamath River at about 1,400 feet elevation within the Klamath Wild and Scenic River corridor, roughly 33 miles east of Happy Camp and about a mile east of the old Hamburg townsite on Highway 96 (reachable from I-5 via Highway 96, about a 35-mile drive). The site inventory is small and straightforward: the campground has a total of 11 campsites; all 11 are set up to accommodate both RVs and tents, made up of nine family sites and two group sites. The campground is arranged in upper and lower loops the upper loop (four family sites and one group site) stays open year-round and a sandy boat launch at the river's edge provides easy access for anglers with drift boats and for whitewater boaters launching into the class II III stretches nearby. There's a compact parking area suitable for vehicles and trailers, and the shaded riverbank setting makes it a good summer stop for boaters and anglers looking for quick access to put-ins and take-outs. Recreation here centers on the river: the Klamath's class II III runs attract fishermen, rafters, kayakers and casual tubers, and a few local trails provide short hiking options in the vicinity. Practical campground facilities include two group sites (each accommodating up to 30 people) with areas for dispersed tent camping, picnic tables and campfire rings with grills; single-family campsites are first-come, first-served while the group sites are reservable during the peak season (mid-May through mid-October). You'll find accessible vault toilets, drinking water spigots, trash collection and basic campsite parking, but no electrical or sewer hookups are listed, so plan accordingly. Beyond river activities, the larger Klamath National Forest offers auto touring, biking, wildlife viewing and other outdoor pursuits, and the nearby ruins of Hamburg foundations and crumbling structures tied to a bygone angling community make for a short historical detour.
