What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (315 reviews, ★ 5.0). Not written or edited by us.

“I lov the camp ground still and will stay there again, although the reason for the 4 stars is because the bathrooms weren’t as clean as I remember them this time… I understand that vault toilets are still better than porta potty’s , but they were neglected this time.”

About

Hanna Flat Campground sits in the pine-covered slopes of the San Bernardino Mountains along the Rim of the World Scenic Byway, a few miles west of Big Bear Lake and under 3 miles from the small town of Fawnskin where you can find groceries, restaurants and fuel. The campground has 67 total campsites: 37 sites set up for both RVs and tents and 30 tent-only sites. Many campsites are shaded by dense pines and some offer extra privacy behind thick shrub growth; within the loop the roads are paved and there is additional parking just outside the campground. Each site includes a picnic table and a metal campfire ring with a grill, firewood is available for purchase, and vault toilets and trash collection are provided. There are no water or electrical hookups on site; a dump station is available at nearby Serrano Campground. Note that more than a mile of the access route is rough, unpaved road that can be difficult or impassable for large RVs and trailers, and several sites are held on a first-come, first-served basis, so plan vehicle size and arrival times accordingly. For facility-specific questions call (909) 866-8550. Recreation around Hanna Flat ranges from short trail outings to lake-based fishing and boating. The 3.5-mile Gray's Peak Trail connects with the Hanna Flat Trail, and about 10 miles of unmarked routes lead toward Coxcomb Creek for those comfortable route-finding; the broader San Bernardino National Forest offers biking, climbing, horseback riding and winter sports among other activities. Big Bear Lake is the nearest major water access for anglers pursuing trout, bluegill, crappie, catfish and largemouth bass, though swimming is often discouraged because of cold water and underwater obstacles near shore. Reservations for individual campsites can generally be made up to six months in advance (group sites up to 12 months) through Recreation.gov; changes or cancellations typically incur a $10 service fee, late cancellations may forfeit the first night's fee, and no-shows can be assessed additional charges see Recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777 for full policy details and to manage bookings.
