“Beautiful camp with friendly, easygoing staff. The camp is under the City of Big Bear regulations though. They are very strict and unpleasant.”
“Good clean spot. Lots of shade. Open area for activities.”

SAN BERNARDINO
Open in Google Maps ↗
Buttercup Group Camp sits in a stand of tall pines at roughly 7,000 feet in the San Bernardino National Forest, about two miles from the shores of Big Bear Lake. Total campsites: 1 a single, accessible group site designed to take either tents or RVs (Site type breakdown: 1 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites) and sized to hold up to 40 people and eight vehicles. The site is relatively shady and feels secluded, reached by a short dirt spur off Summit Boulevard, and comes equipped with picnic tables, grills and a formal campfire circle for evening gatherings. Basic comforts include drinking water and vault toilets on site; because this is a group-only campground there are no individual drive-up loops or hookups beyond the space available for up to eight vehicles, so larger groups should plan vehicle parking and tent/RV placement in advance. Recreation at Buttercup centers on access to the Big Bear Lake area and the trail network in the surrounding forest. Boating and fishing on Big Bear Lake are a short drive away anglers commonly pursue trout, bluegill, crappie, catfish and largemouth bass while swimming is sometimes discouraged because the lake is cold and there are underwater hazards close to shore. Trails that leave from nearby roads support hiking, mountain biking and climbing, and the broader San Bernardino National Forest offers horseback riding, hunting, winter sports and wildlife viewing depending on season and conditions. A small-town selection of grocery and dining options is available in Big Bear Lake; for fees, reservations, seasonal availability and to make or change bookings, campers should consult the Recreation.gov rules and reservation policies page.
