Jose R ★ 3 · Jul 2025I’ve recerving this camp for many and always loved it our family enjoyed do to the fact that has plenty of space but this we found out that for the past few years the restrictions for wood and charcoal burning I wished I could have seen it in the reservation confirmation the family was expecting to envoy a bonfire to roast marshmallows, and make s’mores I could cancel the camp but kept hoping for someone to lift the fire restrictions if it’s going to be like that in the future I must change the tradition of our family camping on 4th of July it’s no fun on going to sleep early because there’s no real fire to keep having fun thank for the excellent people talking care of the camp area will miss coming every year to celebrate a nice time on the Woods. Lobo Group Campground sits in the Barton Flats area of the San Bernardino Mountains at about 6,400 feet, surrounded by a dense pine forest that casts plenty of shade across an otherwise open group site. There is a single group campsite at Lobo (total campsites: 1), configured for both RVs and tents and sized to hold up to 75 people and roughly 15 vehicles. Roads and the parking area are gravel and dirt, and there are no utility hookups, so RV users should plan on dry-camping. The campsite itself is furnished for groups: multiple picnic tables, a central campfire circle with surrounding benches, grills for cooking, plus flush toilets and drinking water on site. Lobo shares its entrance road with the neighboring Oso Group Campground and is home to the region's typical mountain wildlife and bird species. The campground provides direct access to several trail systems and water features that define recreation in this corner of the forest. Hikers, bikers, and equestrians use the Santa Ana River Trail (a long-distance route that, when complete, will reach the Pacific) and the Rio Monte Trail, which climbs to the Rio Monte Panorama overlooking the Santa Ana River gorge. Jenks Lake nearby permits non-motorized boating (rowboats, canoes, kayaks) and is regularly stocked with rainbow trout and supports populations of largemouth bass, bluegill, sunfish and catfish; fishing is also possible on the Santa Ana River. The Grayback Amphitheater on State Route 38 runs weekend interpretive programs during the summer. Because Lobo is a group-only site, reservations are handled through Recreation.gov (charges will appear on statements as "Recreation.gov 877-444-6777"); group sites can usually be reserved up to 12 months in advance (individual sites are typically 6 months), and changes or cancellations generally carry a $10 service fee. Late cancellations of group overnight reservations within 14 days of arrival incur the $10 service fee and forfeiture of the first night's use fee, and no-shows may be assessed a $20 fee and forfeit use fees refund requests must be filed within 14 days after your scheduled departure. To reach Lobo, follow State Route 38 into Barton Flats roughly 22 miles up from the Redlands area.
