Alicia Z ★ 5 · Jul 2023Janet pur camp host was very nice and helpful. Our camp trip was awesome. Love the new picnic tables. They are wonderful!
Renee E ★ 4 · Jul 2022The ban on campfires is contradictory. The group camp HAS a host and is not allowed to have campfires. The individual horse camp does NOT have a host and they can have campfires. The bathrooms were nice and clean. The hosts were nice.

Heart Bar Equestrian Campground is an equestrian-only, reservation-only group site tucked into the pine-covered slopes of the San Bernardino National Forest at about 6,880 feet. There is a single large-group campsite (total campsites: 1) that accepts both RVs and tents and is set up to host groups of riders: it can hold up to 65 people and 21 vehicles, and accommodates a large number of horses with corrals for 40 animals. The site includes multiple picnic tables, a central campfire circle with grills, accessible flush toilets, showers and drinking water, and firewood can be purchased at the adjacent Heart Bar Campground. Only campers with horses are permitted, so plan accordingly; for facility-specific questions you can call (909) 866-8550. The campground provides direct access to some of Southern California's most popular backcountry rides the Santa Ana River Trail passes nearby and is also used by hikers and bikers, and the Wildhorse Creek Trail starts just north of camp and winds about five miles of rolling terrain, climbing nearly 1,100 feet toward a remote camping area south of Wildhorse Meadow. Creek fishing and broader forest activities hiking, biking, wildlife viewing and, seasonally, winter sports in higher areas are all within reach, while Big Bear Lake and the town's services sit roughly 20 miles away if you need supplies or water recreation. Reservations are handled through Recreation.gov (group sites can generally be reserved up to 12 months in advance); standard change and cancellation rules apply, including a $10 service fee for changes/cancellations and specific late-cancellation and no-show penalties (no-shows may incur a $20 fee and forfeiture of use fees). For general reservation help you can also call Recreation.gov at 1-877-444-6777.
