Skyline is a single large-group campsite set high in the pine country of the San Bernardino National Forest at about 6,880 feet, sitting at the back of the Heart Bar camping area. There is only one campsite here, designed for group use and able to accommodate up to 25 people and roughly nine vehicles; it accepts both RV and tent camping. Roads and the small parking area are paved, and the site is outfitted with multiple picnic tables, several campfire rings with grills, vault toilets, drinking water, and trash collection basic but solid amenities that make multi-day stays with a group straightforward. Pines tower around the site but grow thin in places, so the layout lets in ample daylight, and several mountain creeks nearby give anglers places to try creek fishing without having to travel far. Trail access and backcountry opportunities are the main draw: the Santa Ana River Trail and nearby multiuse routes provide miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding, while the Wildhorse Creek Trail heads north of the campground for about five miles, climbing roughly 1,100 feet to a remote camping spot south of Wildhorse Meadow. The Aspen Grove Trail runs beside Fish Creek to a small remnant stand of quaking aspen that is especially striking in autumn; note that a wilderness permit may be required for some hikes in the area. Skyline sits roughly 20 miles from Big Bear Lake and its town when you want more services or water recreation, but the immediate area feels remote and trail-focused. Because this is a group facility, reservations are handled through Recreation.gov (group sites are typically available to reserve up to 12 months in advance); standard policies apply a $10 service fee is charged for most changes or cancellations, last-minute group cancellations within 14 days of arrival will forfeit the first night's use fee plus the service charge, no-shows may incur additional fees, and refund requests must be made within 14 days after departure. For reservations or policy specifics call Recreation.gov at 1-877-444-6777.
