“good hikes nearby. sites are spacious. toilets stink if you aren't the first ones using them in the morning. :) ”
“Campsite 18 - large open space. good for star gazing, probably want a canopy for the day time. 20 ft trailer and 20 ft F150 fit like a glove, probably could've fit a slightly bigger setup too. will be back.”
“Beautiful area with a big meadow. Clean campgrounds and bathrooms. Very kind hosts. Big Bear Lake is very close by to get more ice and fresh cuts at Stater Bros.”

Heart Bar Campground sits at about 6,880 feet among mature pines on a high ridge in the San Bernardino National Forest, offering a mix of open sites and tree-shaded pitches with clear mountain views. The campground contains 66 sites in three loops Aspen Loop (32 sites), Grinnell Peak Loop (17 sites) and Sugarloaf Loop (17 sites) and the site inventory breaks down to 63 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents plus 3 RV-only sites. Individual campsites are outfitted with a picnic table and a metal campfire ring with grill; accessible vault toilets and drinking water are provided, and firewood is sold on site. There are no electrical, water or sewer hookups at Heart Bar, though a nearby dump station with potable water is available; additional parking spaces and some accessible campsites make the area usable for a range of visitors. Because understory is limited, many sites feel exposed and offer less privacy than lower-elevation forest camps, and the campground's location roughly 30 miles northeast on Highway 38 from the Redlands area, just off Forest Route IN02 keeps it removed from the busier lakefront developments about 20 miles away at Big Bear. Heart Bar is primarily a gateway to backcountry recreation rather than a base for developed-riverfront amenities: the Santa Ana River Trail and an extensive network of riding and mountain-bike routes begin in this part of the forest, and the Wildhorse Creek Trail, accessed just north of camp, follows about 5 miles of rolling terrain, gains nearly 1,100 feet and leads toward remote camping south of Wildhorse Meadow; creek fishing is available in nearby drainages. More broadly, the San Bernardino National Forest supports biking, climbing, fishing, hiking, horse camping and horseback riding, hunting, interpretive programs, off-highway vehicle use, swimming, wildlife viewing and winter sports check specific trail and area regulations before you go. Reservations for Heart Bar are managed through Recreation.gov (booking windows commonly open six months in advance for individual sites and 12 months for group sites) and some sites are offered on a first-come, first-served basis; there are no on-site reservation offices, so plan ahead and know the policies: a $10 service fee applies to most changes or cancellations, late cancellations typically forfeit the first night's use fee, no-shows may incur additional fees, and refund requests must be made within 14 days of departure. For current seasonal openings, site availability and the most up-to-date rules, consult Recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777 (charges on your statement appear as "Recreation.gov 877-444-6777").
