“Nice large secluded site. But it’s wayyyyy too expensive for what’s offered. There’s no water and there’s a homeless guy living in the forest close by. We caught him going through our camp at night. He almost got shot.”
“The roads were not visible. No bear box. No place to dump trash”

SAN BERNARDINO
Open in Google Maps ↗
Green Spot Equestrian Group Camp sits high in the San Bernardino Mountains at about 7,224 feet in a mix of pinyon pine and juniper with grassy meadow pockets a broad, single group site designed to accommodate both tents and RVs. There is only one reservable campsite here, sized for up to 25 people and eight vehicles, so the campground feels private by default; the site includes picnic tables and metal campfire rings with grills. Horse users will appreciate five individual corrals that together can hold up to 10 animals and a non-potable water source for livestock, but note there is no potable drinking water for campers and no trash collection on site, so bring your own drinking water and pack out garbage. Vault toilets are provided, and the last half-mile approach is a rocky, rough dirt spur off Forest Route 2N93 that is best attempted in a high-clearance or four-wheel-drive vehicle. The location puts you within the recreational web of Big Bear Valley: Big Bear Lake for fishing, boating and swimming is a short drive away, and the Sugarloaf National Recreation Trail a strenuous route that reaches roughly 9,952 feet begins nearby for serious hikers and scramblers. The campground is reached from Highway 38 near the Big Bear area and is roughly a 45-minute drive from the city of San Bernardino, so supplies and services are available within reasonable distance but you should arrive self-sufficient. Because there is only one group site, reservations are handled through Recreation.gov (group sites can generally be reserved up to 12 months in advance); standard policies apply, including a $10 service fee for changes or cancellations and forfeiture of the first night's fee for some late cancellations (group overnight cancellations inside 14 days are subject to the $10 service fee plus forfeiture rules). No-show and refund policies are set by Recreation.gov as well, so check the site for current availability, fees that may apply to your booking, and any seasonal or permit requirements before you go.
