“Bathrooms are clean and sites are also very well maintained. Bob the ranger in charge is so friendly and helpful. ”
“The campsite was large and well-maintained. There was plenty of shade from the pine and oak trees. The firepit was clean with a nice grill attached. The picnic table was in need of refinishing. The bathrooms were clean and spacious. Beautiful scenery!”

SAN BERNARDINO
Open in Google Maps ↗
Barton Flats Campground sits at about 6,360 feet in the San Bernardino Mountains, roughly 36 miles northeast of San Bernardino off State Route 38 (the Rim of the World Scenic Byway). The site offers 52 level campsites each configured for both RVs and tents with paved parking aprons, picnic tables, and campfire rings with grills. There are a few accessible sites and accessible flush toilets, plus showers and drinking water; firewood is sold on-site. There are no electrical or water hookups at individual sites, but a dump station is available for RV users. The setting is a mixed stand of pine and oak, giving campers shade and a classic mountain-forest feel without steep tent pads or crowded loops. Recreation at Barton Flats connects you directly to several well-known trails and water features. The campground provides access to the Santa Ana River Trail (popular with hikers, bikers, and horseback riders) and the 2.5-mile Rio Monte Trail that ends at a panorama above the Santa Ana River gorge; the Jenks Lake Trail begins at the Barton Flats Visitor Center and leads down to nearby Jenks Lake, where anglers find stocked rainbow trout along with bass, bluegill, sunfish and catfish and paddlers can use non-motorized boats. The Grayback Amphitheater on SR-38 runs evening interpretive programs in summer months. Practical notes: reservations are subject to standard cancellation rules if you cancel the day before or the day of arrival you pay a $10 service fee and forfeit the first night's fee (one-night reservations forfeit the entire amount), and no-shows are charged a $20 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's fee; for facility-specific questions call (909) 866-8550.
