“Quiet, beautiful scenery, dog friendly, nice camp host. ”

Jon R 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Very large, well spaced out sites. Clean and beautiful. Only reason for 4 stars vs 5 is no cell service, even in town. ”

About

Green Valley Campground sits in a mixed stand of pine, fir and cedar at about 7,200 feet, with open grassy patches and shrublands that step down toward a seasonal mountain creek. The site is in the stretch of the San Bernardino National Forest between Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake, roughly nine miles east of Running Springs via Highway 18 and Green Valley Lake Road, and the small alpine reservoir of Green Valley Lake is only about a mile away. That lake is the local draw known for trout fishing and offering boating, swimming and access to a handful of nearby hiking trails while the broader forest around you supports biking, climbing, wildlife viewing and, in season, winter sports and other park activities. The feeling here is that of a small, quietly wooded mountain camp with quick access to larger resort towns about 15 16 miles in either direction if you need supplies or want more organized recreation. Practical details matter at this compact campground: there are 26 campsites in total 7 sites configured for both RVs and tents, and 19 tent-only sites and each site comes with a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill; flush toilets and drinking water are available on site. Some sites are held on a first-come, first-served basis, so plan ahead if you need a guaranteed spot; also note there is no overflow parking, which can restrict very large rigs. Reservations follow standard Recreation.gov policies: individual campsites can generally be reserved up to six months in advance (group sites up to 12 months), and reservation dates may not be changed beyond the booking window until 18 days after booking. A $10 service fee applies for most changes or cancellations; cancelling the day before or on the day of arrival usually carries a $10 fee plus forfeiture of the first night's use fee for individual sites, and no-shows may be assessed a $20 fee and forfeit use fees. Refund requests must be made within 14 days after your scheduled departure, and reservation charges will appear on your card as "Recreation.gov 877-444-6777." Check the specific Recreation.gov facility page before you travel, since permit or lottery sites and certain facilities may have additional, location-specific rules and fees.
