SAN BERNARDINO
Open in Google Maps ↗
Crab Flats Campground sits in the higher reaches of the San Bernardino National Forest amid tall pines, oaks and cedars, offering a quiet, primitive camping experience that leans toward self-reliant visitors. The site is reached via a dirt road that crosses Deep Creek and is generally difficult to access without a high-clearance vehicle; RVs are allowed but limited to 28 feet in length. The loop holds 27 single-family sites that accept both tents and RVs, and each site includes a picnic table, a metal campfire ring with grill and a bear box. Facilities are basic vault toilets only, no overflow parking and no hookups so plan to bring your own water and supplies. For facility-specific questions call (909) 866-8550; reservations and policy details are handled through Recreation.gov or by phone at 1-877-444-6777. The campground is a hub for off-highway vehicle riders and trail users: nearby Crab Creek Trail links to Fisherman's Campground, the Redonda Ridge Trail stretches about 9.7 miles, Holcomb Valley Road runs roughly 26 miles beginning just west of the site, and the Crab Flat Loop is also in the immediate area. Green Valley Lake a small, regularly stocked 9-acre lake offering fishing, boating and swimming sits roughly 6 8 miles away, and winter visitors will find opportunities for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. When booking, note Recreation.gov rules: individual campsites can be reserved up to six months in advance (group sites up to 12 months), changes or cancellations generally incur a $10 service fee, and late cancellations or no-shows can result in additional forfeited fees; refunds must be requested within 14 days of the scheduled departure. The closest towns are Arrowhead and Running Springs for any last-minute needs.
