The site was amazing. Resting between 2 peaks/hills, both easy enuff to hike up for a commanding view. There’s nothing and no one around for miles. The only reason i didn’t give it a 5 is access is difficult. Tho we did manage to get a Harley and a Yaris in there. We will probably use it again next year.

About

Juniper Springs Group Camp is a high-elevation, primitive group site tucked into the San Bernardino Mountains about 10 miles from Big Bear Lake. The campground sits at 7,739 feet amid a pinyon-pine and juniper woodland with scattered ponderosa pines and a small on-site pond, and it offers a single large group campsite (TOTAL CAMPSITES: 1). That one site is configured to accept both rigs and tents (site type breakdown: 1 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites) and can hold up to 40 people and eight vehicles; standard SUVs or vehicles with four-wheel drive or higher clearance are required to reach the site because the final approach is a dirt road that prevents low-clearance cars from accessing the campground. Facilities are basic: picnic tables, a campfire circle, a large grill and vault toilets are provided, but there is no drinking water or trash collection plan to bring potable water and pack out garbage. The surrounding forest offers plenty of ways to spend time: nearby trailheads put hikers and mountain bikers onto singletrack, and off-road vehicle users head to Cactus Flats, which contains roughly 68 miles of ORV trails and a picnic area. Big Bear Lake (about 10 11 miles away) supplies boating and fishing opportunities for trout, bluegill, crappie, catfish and largemouth bass, though swimming at the lake is discouraged because of very cold water and underwater hazards. Basic services groceries, a general store and restaurants are available in Big Bear Lake; showers can be found at Serrano Campground about 15 miles away. Reservations for group sites are managed through Recreation.gov (booking windows for group sites can extend to 12 months in advance); be aware of the standard change/cancellation rules (a $10 service fee applies for most changes/cancellations and group overnight facilities cancelled within 14 days of arrival forfeit the first night's use fee in addition to the $10 fee), and no-show or late-cancellation penalties may apply.
