“Well stocked with wood. Clean - and all we could have asked for!”
“Excellent spot for a relaxing get-away. Watched 8 river otters feeding as a 'pack' right off the cabin. ”
“We had a great two nights here. I would recommend packing as light as possible because the flats prevent a drop-off right next to the cabin. There is a beautiful estuary and the cabin is kept up well. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!”

Sevenfathom Bay Cabin sits about 22 miles southeast of Sitka on the southwest side of Baranof Island, just north of West Crawfish Inlet and a stone's throw from the South Baranof Wilderness. Getting there requires planning: expect roughly a 90-minute boat ride from Sitka or about 15 minutes by floatplane, and always check local tide tables and weather forecasts before you depart. The land around the cabin is mostly flat at the head of Sevenfathom Bay, with few established trails but plenty of route-finding options for day hikes; the wilderness boundary is reachable by boat in about five minutes. Saltwater fishing and deer hunting are common pastimes from the cabin bring the right permits and consult the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for seasons and regulations and wildlife viewing is a draw here, too; brown bears frequent the area, so store food securely and follow bear-safety practices. If you want a hot soak after a day on the water, Goddard Hot Springs is roughly a 20-minute boat trip to the north, tubs provided on a first-come, first-served basis by the City and Borough of Sitka. For map reference, see the USGS Port Alexander D-4 topo. The cabin itself built in April 1991 by Sitka volunteers is a 16-by-16-foot wood A-frame with a large front deck and enough sleeping space for up to eight people. Interior features include a sleeping loft accessed by a vertical ladder, a wooden double bunk, table and benches, a wood stove, and a cooking counter; an outhouse is located close by. Important practical details: the cabin does not supply mattresses, cooking utensils, or potable water, so bring sleeping bags and pads, a camp stove with pots and pans, plates and utensils, food, toilet paper, lanterns, garbage bags, a fire extinguisher and fire starter; rain gear and boots are recommended and firewood can be scarce. Water from a nearby inlet stream can be used only after proper treatment, and it is recommended you bring your own water. A mooring buoy is available for first-come, first-served use (configured with a 4,200-lb concrete block and 90 feet of 7/8-inch stud link chain), but reservation of the cabin does not guarantee exclusive use of the buoy and mariners must judge whether the anchoring setup is suitable for their craft. The site is listed as a single campsite for reservation purposes (TOTAL CAMPSITES: 1; SITE TYPE BREAKDOWN: 1 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites). The cabin is generally available year-round, weather permitting; note that only one change to reservation dates is allowed after that you must cancel and rebook if further changes are needed.
