“Close to town and big enough for my family and I ”
“Spent 2 nights. Great place, close to town, sheltered and quiet. Explored the forest and tide flats. Spent a day a redoubt chasing reds. Will be back again. ”
“Always love this cabin for easy accessibility with friends. So much to explore, such a big cabin. ”

Samsing Cove Cabin sits about 5.5 miles south of Sitka on Baranof Island and is reachable only by boat roughly a 20-minute ride from town when weather allows so plan travel carefully and consult local tide tables and charts (USGS Port Alexander D-5 and D-4) before you go. The two-story log cabin measures 24 by 30 feet and is the single reservable site at this location (TOTAL CAMPSITES: 1; listed as 1 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites). It sleeps up to 15 people across two open sleeping lofts (each with a double plywood bunk and open floor space) reached by one stairway, plus two sets of single-over-double bunks on the main level. The downstairs communal area has an oil stove (bring #1 diesel expect roughly five gallons to get the space warm during the first 24 hours, then two to five gallons daily depending on conditions), two large tables with benches, cooking counters and open shelving; there are no mattresses, cooking utensils, or heating oil provided. An outhouse is nearby and water is available from a stream but must be treated before use; the cabin reservation does not include exclusive use of the mooring buoy, which is available first-come, first-served (4200-lb concrete block with 90 ft of 7/8" stud link chain), and mariners are responsible for determining whether anchoring arrangements suit their vessel. The setting is coastal and practical rather than polished: the cabin sits on a short, gently rising slope above a rocky shoreline with a small gravel beach that appears at low tide, and a hemlock spruce fringe behind the building. At high tide the cove offers relatively protected water for novice kayakers, though you must bring your own kayak and all personal flotation devices; common activities include saltwater fishing (check Alaska Department of Fish & Game for permits and seasons), beachcombing, wildlife viewing and photography orca and humpback whales, sea otters, sea lions, puffins and frequent brown bear sightings are part of the local scene. The Forest Service notes that the site is remote and generally available year-round "weather permitting"; visitors are expected to provide their own travel arrangements, safety gear and basic supplies (sleeping bags and pads, cooking stove and pots/pans, plates and utensils, toilet paper, lantern, garbage bags, fire starter and extinguisher, rain gear and boots). Reservation changes for Alaska cabins are limited: only one modification to a reservation's start or end date is allowed; after that you must cancel and rebook if you need different dates.
