Lewis Lake Campground sits at about 7,800 feet on the road between Yellowstone's South Entrance and West Thumb, roughly twelve miles north of the South Entrance. The looped campground has 82 sites in all 24 sites in Loop A, 14 in Loop B, 27 in Loop C, and 17 walk-in sites and 81 of those sites accommodate both RVs and tents while one site is tent-only. Sites are a short walk from the southeast shore of Lewis Lake, and a boat ramp and the campground information/registration area are right nearby. The campground is lightly staffed and a seasonal host is usually on site; there is no cell phone reception, but you'll find potable water spigots, year-round vault toilets, trash and recycling collection, and food storage lockers for securing food and scented items. There are no showers. Nightly fees are $20 (Interagency Access and Senior Pass holders receive a 50% discount), and you should call the park's limited-staff information line at (307) 344-2107 if you need assistance. Lewis Lake itself is a big part of the draw: both motorized and non-motorized boating are allowed from the campground's launch, but boat permits and an aquatic invasive species inspection performed by park staff are required before you put in. The area also offers fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, and access to nearby backcountry routes; Lewis Falls and the Lewis Canyon overlook are close and make easy half-day side trips. Reservation and change policies are specific: there is no fee to modify dates that remain within your original reservation or to switch sites of the same price for the same dates, but changing to dates entirely outside the original reservation carries a $10 change fee, and reservations that include dates beyond the maximum booking window cannot be altered until 18 days after booking. Cancellations made before arrival are refundable minus a $10 service fee; canceling the day before or the day of arrival costs the $10 fee plus forfeiture of the first night's rate (one-night reservations forfeit the entire payment), no-shows incur a $20 fee plus the first night's rate, and onsite staff handle changes once a reservation has begun.
