Lizard Creek Campground sits on Fonda Point along the northern shore of Jackson Lake, where sites peer south across water toward the northern face of the Teton Range. The setting is a mixed lodgepole pine and spruce forest with frequent wildlife sightings mule deer, red fox and coyotes move through the campground, and bald eagles and osprey often perch in lakeside trees fishing the clear, cold waters. Jackson Lake itself stretches roughly 7 miles across and about 15 miles long, with a maximum depth over 400 feet and summer water temperatures typically between 50 70°F; Lizard Creek has shore access for canoeing, kayaking and trout fishing but does not have a boat ramp (Signal Mountain Lodge, a short drive away, provides a ramp, rentals and guided trips). No formal trails exit directly from the campground, but hiking and backcountry options are nearby: Colter Bay and the park trail network lie about 7 8 miles south, and the south entrance to Yellowstone is roughly 11 miles to the north, making Lizard Creek a convenient base for exploring both parks while offering a quieter, less developed camping experience. The campground has 60 sites in total, a mix designed for simple, dispersed camping: 33 sites accommodate both RVs and tents and 27 are tent-only, with many of the tent sites configured as walk-in plots that give a more private feel than the typical loop campground layout. Sites are arranged across three areas Loop 1 contains 15 sites, Loop 2 has 26 sites, and 19 sites sit along the main road and parking pad sizes, tent areas and distances from pads to tents vary considerably, so reservations should be made through recreation.gov using site photos and dimensions to confirm a fit (there is no onsite payment). The campground provides three comfort stations with flush toilets and sinks, potable water distributed through the loops, picnic tables, fire rings and bear-proof food storage boxes at every site, plus trash and recycling service; ice and firewood are available for purchase at the campground office. Lizard Creek typically opens late in the spring and closes early in the fall and can experience rapidly changing weather, so come prepared for cool nights and enforce the park's required food-storage rules to protect wildlife and fellow campers.
