Owen Creek Campground sits at about 8,400 feet along the Bighorn Scenic Byway near Burgess Overlook and the Woodrock area, where the banks of Owen Creek meet a mixed stand of pine and aspen beneath craggy granite peaks that rise above 13,000 feet. The setting is compact and quiet there are seven sites in all, each configured to accommodate both tents and RVs and furnished with a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill so it feels more like a small, creekside cluster than a large development. Wildlife is common around the creek and in the surrounding forest, and the campground is a convenient base for exploring the Cloud Peak Wilderness trails, scenic jeep roads and off-road vehicle routes that thread this part of the Bighorns. Sibley Lake nearby allows non-motorized boating and has an accessible fishing dock where anglers try for rainbow, brown and brook trout; beyond that, the broader Bighorn National Forest invites auto touring, biking, horseback riding, hunting, winter sports and other outdoor pursuits. Practical amenities at Owen Creek include accessible vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection, and firewood bundles are available from the campground host. Each site allows up to two non-towed vehicles (the first vehicle is included in the basic fee; a second vehicle is charged $9 per day and that fee is collected at the campground). Reservations and cancellations are handled through recreation.gov (refund requests there incur a $10 processing fee retained by the reservation contractor and the concessionaire does not return the non-refundable reservation fee), and the campground is administered by Gallatin Canyon Campgrounds (gccampgrounds13@gmail.com). For additional services guided horseback rides, fishing trips, OHV rentals, showers, dining and supplies several lodges near the highway and the Shell Falls Visitor Center about 22 miles southwest provide convenient access, and the nearby Red Gulch Dinosaur Tracksite offers a unique Middle Jurassic fossil experience.
