Lost Lake Campground sits on the north shore of an 86-acre, clear-water lake in the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest, surrounded by a mixed stand of maple, aspen and towering white pine. The lake is stocked with rainbow and brown trout and is managed for non-motorized use no motors of any kind, including electric, are allowed which makes it a quiet place for paddling, swimming from a small sandy beach, and fishing for bass, trout and panfish. Trails start right at the campground: the Lost Lake loop follows the shoreline and threads through old-growth hemlock, the adjacent Assessor's Nature Trail passes through a 150-year-old hemlock and white pine stand, and the 3.3-mile Ridge Trail links Lost Lake to Chipmunk Rapids Campground and the Lauterman National Recreation Trail. Birdwatchers often hear or spot loons and resident bald eagles, and the surrounding forest supports other wildlife and long, low-slung views along forest roads and singletrack. Practical arrangements are straightforward: the campground has 27 single-family campsites that accommodate both tents and RVs, with each site outfitted with a picnic table and a fire ring with grill. Facilities are basic but functional vault toilets and drinking water (pressurized system and a hand pump) and sites are offered both first-come/first-served and by reservation, so check the Forest Service recreation page for current reservation windows, fees and seasonal openings. Lost Lake is reached via forest roads off State Highway 70 roughly 20 miles west of the Town of Florence, so expect gravel driving and to consult maps or current road-condition notices before you go. If you want a low-key lakeside stay with easy access to multi-use trails and a motor-free paddle, Lost Lake delivers that straightforward, wood-and-water experience.
