“Beautiful campground. My family has been coming here for 50+ years. Outhouses were kept clean. ”

Luna-White Deer Campground sits in a dense mixed forest at about 1,735 feet, squeezed between two clear, non-motorized lakes where half the campsites look directly onto the water. A roughly four-mile loop trail circles the lakes and links to more than 30 miles of additional routes, including the Anvil National Recreation Trail, so you can stretch a day hike into a longer woods ramble. The lakes are small and quiet good for paddling, swimming from a sandy beach and shore fishing with anglers commonly catching largemouth and rock bass, perch, pumpkinseed and bluegill in both lakes and rainbow trout in White Deer Lake. Expect to share the shoreline with wildlife: loons call after dark and bald eagles often perch in the tall pines, while deer and other northern-woods species move through the campsites by day. The campground offers 37 single-family sites: 34 are set up for both RVs and tents and three are tent-only. Sites come with picnic tables and fire rings with grills; vault toilets and drinking water are provided within the loop. Camping options include both first-come, first-served sites and sites that can be reserved in advance, so check the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest recreation page for current fees, reservation windows and seasonal openings before you go. Access is from State Highway 70 southeast of Eagle River, then along forest roads (Divide Road/FR2176 and FR2188) for the final few miles; the City of Eagle River about 19 miles away supplies groceries and services if you need provisions or last-minute gear.
