“They advertise a rail trails bike trail and a hiking trail around the lake, reason for the reservation. Unfortunately both were so over grown you couldn't use either one, very disappointed. ”
“Absolutely beautiful campground! Pit toilets smelled better than most public restrooms. Grounds were well kept, park was quiet and lake was beautiful”

Laura Lake Campground sits on the southwestern shore of a 110-acre lake of the same name, with a smaller 50-acre Gordon Lake and its swim beach and picnic area immediately adjacent. The campground's 41 sites are mostly configured to handle both tents and RVs 39 sites accept RVs and tents while two are tent-only and most sites can accommodate campers 30 feet and longer. Picnic tables, a swim beach on Gordon Lake, a developed back-in boat landing on each lake, vault toilets and drinking water are provided; all internal roads are paved with blacktop. Motor use on both lakes is limited to electric motors only, so the setting favors paddling, quiet boating, fishing and shoreline swimming rather than high-speed watercraft. Outdoor access is straightforward from Highway 8: the site is reached by turning onto Forest Road 2163 north of Laona/Armstrong Creek and continuing several miles into the National Forest. Onsite recreation centers on the water and nearby trails a 2.25-mile hiking loop around Laura Lake and a 6.5-mile bike trail that follows an old Lake 9 railroad grade provide easy day-use options for families and solo visitors; canoeing, kayaking and fishing are common from the boat landings. The campground is part of the larger Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, where additional opportunities such as auto touring, OHV routes, horseback riding, hunting and more dispersed camping exist; for current fees, reservation rules and seasonal opening dates, check the Forest Service recreation pages before you go.
