“I have camped here since I was a kid. Campground is beautiful. The only issue is the bathrooms were not in working order the weekend we were there. Other than that, always a great place to camp!”
“The campground and facilities were great. We were surprised though when the water was turned off mid weekend and the only bathroom was a fairly far walk the the boat ramp.”

Lake Ottawa Campground sits in classic Upper Peninsula forest about five miles southwest of Iron River, accessed from M-73 and Lake Ottawa Road on the Iron River Ranger District. The site is roughly 95% surrounded by National Forest System land, so the campsites feel private even though the loop is compact the campground contains 31 sites that accommodate both tents and RVs. Practical services include two log toilet buildings with flush toilets, a pressurized water system and an on-site RV dump station. Near the camping loop is a stone-and-log picnic shelter with two stone fireplaces and original log picnic tables; adjacent day-use facilities include a CCC-era recreation building with indoor seating, a fireplace, electricity and flush toilets, a swimming beach, a large outdoor picnic area and a playing field. Lake Ottawa itself lies directly beside the campground: a deep, cold-water lake with a boat ramp and ample trailer parking for anglers and boaters. Recreation ranges from easy lakeside swimming and boating to longer backcountry outings. Anglers will find a variety of game fish in Lake Ottawa; the boat launch makes it straightforward to get on the water. The Ge-Che Trail about nine miles of dirt singletrack through primarily hardwood forest can be accessed from the campground or the boat landing, and the short Stateline Mile Post Zero Trail leads to the historic Michigan Wisconsin marker within a few tenths of a mile. Beyond the immediate area the Ottawa National Forest offers hundreds of waterfalls, thousands of miles of streams, and trail networks for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and OHV use, plus interpretive programs and wildlife viewing opportunities. There is a seasonal day-use fee from May 15 through September 30 of $5 per day per vehicle (or an annual pass for $30 that also covers Sylvania and Black River Harbor); pay at the self-registration fee tube or contact the Ottawa National Forest office at 906-932-1330 to arrange an annual pass. Before you go, check current alerts and restrictions for the campground and surrounding trails.
