“Beautifully maintained campground in a beautiful setting right on the Skykomish River”
“This is the 7th year camping here with my 4 sons. We love this campground! The river is the best to play in and explore!”

Troublesome Creek Campground sits along the banks of the North Fork Skykomish River and its namesake tributary, Troublesome Creek, roughly 20 miles east of Index in the northern Cascades. Sites are set among mixed conifer pines and firs with a footbridge crossing the creek and a steady, pleasant gurgle from the water that carries through camp at night. The creek is shallow and easy to explore from within the campground, a good place for kids to poke at rock pools or for adults to sit and read at the water's edge; the bigger North Fork offers fishing for steelhead and salmon, and there is enough river access that several campsites sit very near the banks. If you want to stretch your legs beyond the campground, local trails include Beckler Peak (a challenging day hike that rewards steep climbing with broad views) and the Jennifer Dunn Trailhead, which begins on an old logging road, climbs through alder and vine maple to a wide valley vista, and works its way past large trees and remnants of a trapper's cabin up to ridge-top panoramas. The campground has 25 sites in total: 18 that will accommodate both RVs and tents and 7 tent-only sites, and the layout makes it suitable for families or small groups looking for a straightforward forest-and-river experience. Facilities are basic picnic tables at each site and vault toilets but there are no electrical hookups, so plan accordingly for power and refrigeration. Access is by way of Highway 2 east from Everett, then Beckler River Road (Forest Service Road 65) for the Forest Service portion of the drive; the last paved approach follows the North Fork Skykomish Road toward the campground. Recreation in the broader Mt. Baker Snoqualmie National Forest ranges from auto touring and biking to boating, horseback riding, and winter sports, but at Troublesome Creek you'll primarily be working with water-based play, angling, and nearby hiking. Check current fees and seasonal availability before you go and note the reservation policy: once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify your reservation.
