“Lovely area, campsite was well taken care of and a nice little walk down to the river”
“Nice site. Power lines close by overhead, but it's private. Only thing that would improve the experience is if there was water spigots in the campground.”

American Forks Campground sits in the East Cascades about 40 miles west of Naches, just off State Route 410 where Bumping River Road crosses the American River. The site occupies a patch of old-growth forest dominated by Douglas fir and western hemlock with a cedar understory, ferns and mossy groundcover between grassy clearings; the nearby river provides a constant, cool backdrop. The developed loop holds 12 campsites each listed to accommodate both tents and RVs with vault toilets but no potable water, so plan to bring your own supply. The campground operates on a seasonal schedule: eight sites are reservable and four are held for first-come, first-served use, and sites are available from Memorial Day through the end of September; check the Okanogan Wenatchee National Forest or local ranger district for current reservation procedures and any fees before you go. Recreation spills outward from the campground: Bumping Lake is a short drive away and offers boating, a marina and a boat ramp, while the American River beside the loop holds rainbow and brown trout for anglers and offers scenic paddling opportunities on whitewater tributaries. Trailheads in the area link to the William O. Douglas and Norse Peak Wildernesses and to a nearby stretch of the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Boulder Cave Trail provides an interpretive riverside walk and a small cave to explore. Off-road vehicle and snowmobile users frequent the Little Naches drainage; in winter the American River area draws snowshoers and cross-country skiers (note that the campground itself is seasonal and typically closed during snowy months). Within about ten miles you'll also find mountain biking, horseback riding, hunting/fishing access, scenic drives along the Mather Parkway, and plentiful wildlife-viewing opportunities expect to encounter deer, elk and many migratory birds so bring appropriate food storage and wildlife-aware practices.
