“Although the campground is close to Road 410, it was quiet at night. The setup is pretty primitive. There’s no sink or faucet for washing dishes, and no soap available for handwashing.”
“Lovely place, but vault toilets became horribly stinky in the afternoon. ”

Sawmill Flat Campground sits on the banks of the Naches River in the Northern Cascade Range of Washington, reached from the Naches Pass corridor along WA-410 west of Yakima. The campground is compact 24 sites in all with 15 sites that can accommodate both RVs and tents and nine tent-only sites, plus a handful of walk-up spots for last-minute campers. Facilities are basic and rustic: vault toilets and a drinking water source are provided, but there are no electrical hookups or sewer services, so plan to be self-contained if you arrive with an RV. The surrounding landscape reflects the variety of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, where elevations run from low river valleys to high glaciated peaks; Sawmill Flat's riverside location gives quick access to water, shady camping spots, and the feel of a working Cascade watershed rather than a manicured commercial park. Staffing at this site is limited, so check conditions and availability before you go. The campground is a good base for a wide range of outdoor pursuits: anglers fish the Naches and nearby tributaries, hikers and backpackers find trailheads for local treks (Frost Mountain Lookout Trail is a popular day hike), and river users can paddle the American River or head farther afield for fall whitewater on the Tieton and American. Boulder Cave National Recreation Trail is nearby for an accessible riverside stroll or a longer walk to the cave with interpretive signs about geology and fire history, and the Pacific Crest Trail is within reach for longer wilderness trips. Sawmill Flat's management follows standard Recreation.gov reservation rules: cancellations up to two days before arrival incur a $10 fee; cancelling the day before or on arrival results in a $10 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's fee (one-night reservations forfeit the entire payment), and no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee plus loss of the first night's rate. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days of checkout; emergency closures typically trigger full refunds. For current conditions, questions about reservations, or to confirm seasonal access, call the site's information line at (661) 702-1420.
