Cottonwood Campground sits beside the Naches River on the eastern slopes of the Northern Cascades within the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, where glaciated peaks give way to mountain meadows and stretches of older forest. The river is a defining feature here: you can step down from the campground to splash or wade in quieter stretches of the Naches, cast a line for trout, or use the site as a base for nearby whitewater trips on the American River. Several trailheads are within easy reach the American Ridge Trail (open to hikers, backpackers and horseback riders) runs over 26 miles from Bumping River toward the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Boulder Cave National Recreation Trail follows the river with interpretive signs and access to Boulder Cave. Highway access is straightforward: from the town of Naches follow Highway 410 northeast about 22.5 miles to milepost 99.5; staffing at the site is limited, and general information is available by calling (661) 702-1420. The campground is small and low-key: there are 15 sites in total, 11 configured for both RVs and tents and 4 tent-only sites, with vault toilets and drinking water on site but no electrical hookups. Expect simple, riverside camping rather than full-service RV park amenities; an extra vehicle fee of $8 applies. Reservations and cancellations are handled through Recreation.gov with specific fees and timelines cancellations up to two days before arrival incur a $10 fee, cancellations the day before or the day of arrival incur a $10 service fee and the loss of the first night's fee (one-night reservations that are canceled forfeit the entire amount), and no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's rate. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after your reservation ends; card refunds go back to the original account while cash or check refunds are issued by Treasury check (which can take 6 8 weeks). In the event of an emergency closure, fees will be refunded and Recreation.gov or the facility manager will attempt to notify you using the contact information on file.
