About

Hells Crossing Campground sits along the banks of the American River in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest's stretch of the Cascade Range, roughly 38 miles northwest of Naches on Highway 410 near milepost 83.4. The campground contains 18 sites in total: 12 that will accommodate both RVs and tents and 6 tent-only sites. Sites are arranged in two distinct sections, each with its own entrance sites 1 10 lie in the eastern section just over the river, while sites 11 18 form the western section so expect a split layout and the sound of running water for many sites. Basic amenities include picnic tables, vault toilets and drinking water, but there are no electrical hookups; plan for self-sufficient power and winter camping considerations if you visit outside the summer months. The river is accessible from within the campground, making it easy to cool off in the cold water or stage a put-in for paddling and whitewater trips on the American and nearby rivers. Outdoor opportunities spread well beyond the campsite: anglers and swimmers will find the river within easy reach, hikers can explore the Boulder Cave National Recreation Trail and, farther afield, sections of the Pacific Crest Trail cross through the district. The wider forest supports biking, horseback riding, hunting, OHV routes, winter sports and wildlife viewing, so the campground makes a practical base for a wide range of activities. Practical details to note when planning: an extra vehicle fee of $8 applies, staffing at this location is limited (general information: 661-702-1420), and reservation cancellations carry fees cancel up to two days before arrival and a $10 cancellation fee applies; cancel the day before or on arrival and you pay a $10 service fee and forfeit the first night's fee (one-night reservations forfeit the entire amount if cancelled). No-shows are assessed a $20 service fee and the first night's rate is forfeited. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after the reservation ends; refunds are returned to the original payment method or, for cash/check purchases, by Treasury check. In the event of an emergency closure, all fees will be refunded.
