“The ants are still bad there (and they bite), but the setting is great. Excellent river access and trails to explore. Quiet during the beginning of the week. Nice host. ”

Pleasant Valley Campground sits along the banks of the American River in the Northern Cascades within the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, about 42 miles northwest of Naches on Highway 410 near milepost 80. The setting is a mix of riverfront access and classic Cascade country where high, glaciated peaks rise toward the Cascade Crest and the landscape transitions eastward into drier shrub-steppe. Goat Rocks Wilderness and Gilbert Peak (8,184 ft) are within reach for anyone wanting steep alpine memories, while lower-elevation trails and old-growth valleys provide softer day-hiking options. Crow Lake, Swamp Lake, Cougar Valley and Union Creek trailheads sit nearby and the Pacific Crest Trail passes through the broader region; the Boulder Cave National Recreation Trail runs along the river and includes interpretive signs and a cave to explore. The forest as a whole supports a broad range of activities year-round hiking, fishing, boating, climbing, horse riding and camping, plus winter sports higher on the crest and the American River itself is a working river for anglers (rainbow, brook and cutthroat trout are present), swimmers who don't mind cold water, and whitewater users looking for a run. The campground is compact compared with others in the district: Pleasant Valley offers 16 campsites, and all 16 accommodate both tents and RVs. Sites come with picnic tables, nearby drinking water and vault toilets, but there are no electrical hookups and staffing is limited; for general questions call (661) 702-1420. Reservations and fees are managed through Recreation.gov, and cancellation rules are strict: cancel up to two days before arrival and you incur a $10 cancellation fee; cancel the day before or on arrival and you pay a $10 service fee plus forfeit the first night's use fee (one-night reservations are nonrefundable). No-shows are assessed a $20 service fee and forfeit the first night's rate, and refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after your reservation ends. If you're planning a multi-activity trip a few easy river casts, a PCT day section, or a longer push into Goat Rocks Pleasant Valley is a small, well-situated base with basic amenities and quick access to the region's trailheads and waterways.
