Lewis M. Turner Campground sits at about 5,900 feet in the Tony Grove area of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, roughly 22 miles northeast of Logan and about 18 miles south of Garden City on US-89. The campground is set back off the highway among Engelmann spruce, white pines and aspens, so sites get plenty of shade and feel tucked into a patchwork of forest and meadow. There are nine campsites that accommodate both tents and RVs (each site has a picnic table and a metal fire ring) and a flush restroom on site; each single site has a posted capacity of up to eight people. Mid-July through mid-August is when the meadows and campground light up with a mix of geraniums, paintbrush, columbine, lupine, daisies and mountain sunflowers, making summer the most visually striking time to visit. Access to trails and backcountry opportunities is immediate from the campground: hikers, mountain bikers, climbers, anglers and hunters use the surrounding forest, and the broader national forest supports horseback riding, auto touring, OHV riding, wildlife viewing, picnicking and swimming options in nearby areas. Bear Lake known for its vivid turquoise water caused by suspended limestone particles is within easy driving distance and offers marinas, paved boat ramps, fishing (including Bear Lake cutthroat), and year-round recreation such as boating and winter snowmobiling in the nearby mountains. Sites cost $25 per night (day-use $15), extra vehicles are $10 each, and payment is accepted by cash, check, or Scan & Pay through the Recreation.gov app. Reservations and cancellations follow standard Recreation.gov rules: a $10 service fee is withheld from refunds for cancellations, late cancellations (the day before or day of arrival) forfeit the first night's use fee in addition to the service fee, no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee and forfeit the first night, and refund requests can be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after your reservation ends. Certain Interagency Passes can reduce the recreation fee for an eligible pass holder who occupies the site, but discounts don't apply to reservation or extra-vehicle fees or to group facilities.
