Eliza J ★ 5 · Aug 2025It was wonderful for our family to have a place it the beauty of nature to ourselves. The grounds and buildings were nice, clean and ready for our group. It is obvious that improvements are constant. One cabin had newer mattresses. The bathhouse, kitchen and cultural hall are a great bonus. We can’t say enough good about our camp host. Always accessible, ready to accommodate our needs with a congenial attitude and smile. He was so enjoyable. Thank you for making Gooseberry Admin Site available.
Rick M ★ 5 · Sep 2024Not only was the place amazingly clean and beautiful, but the camp hosts Jay and Rhonda were both helpful and very knowledgeable of the history of the camp as well as the surrounding area. The ledgend of Annie Bangs intrigued us all and Fish lake is a place you do not want to miss. Gooseberry Admin Cabins has become our family favorite. Thanks again for giving us the opportunity to stay at your site.

Gooseberry Administrative Site Cabins sit in the Gooseberry drainage in central Utah at about 8,000 feet, a stand of aspens shading an old Forest Service compound that served as summer headquarters from 1907 to 1960. The site is positioned south of Interstate 70, roughly a short drive southeast of Salina, and is commonly used today for family reunions, scout and church groups, and youth camps. Recreation around the site is varied: the Great Western Trail runs nearby with two convenient trailheads for day rides or multi-day routes, and the surrounding Forest offers opportunities for off-highway vehicle riding, fishing, hiking, biking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing. Because of the elevation and tree cover expect cooler temperatures and vivid fall color in autumn; access is by a county road branching off I-70, and the administrative site is managed as a single reservable campsite that accommodates both RVs and tents. The facility itself is a preserved group camp complex with three bunk cabins (one equipped with propane heat), a recreation hall with a fireplace and seating, a fully outfitted group kitchen and a bathhouse with flush toilets, sinks and hot showers. The kitchen includes a large propane range and oven, three small propane refrigerators, three sinks, a prep and serving area with hot water, plus two outdoor grills; a propane generator supplies electricity and lights for a couple of hours in the morning and evening. Fifty single beds with mattresses are provided, but guests must bring their own linens or bedding, plus dishes, utensils and cookware maid service is not provided and groups are expected to keep the facility clean during their stay and to clean up before departure. Several picnic tables and a campfire ring sit outside, a volunteer host is on site, and practical details to note are check-in after 2 p.m. and check-out by 11 a.m.; for fees, reservation windows and seasonal openings contact the Fishlake National Forest office before planning your trip.
