About

Bowery Creek Campground sits at about 9,000 feet on a sagebrush-covered hillside above Fish Lake, with aspen and cottonwood dotting the site and most campsites offering lake views just a short walk down and across the road. The campground contains 42 total sites all configured to accommodate both tents and RVs plus a mix of single-family sites and six group sites (three that hold up to 30 people each and three that hold up to 20). A separate group day-use picnic area can host up to 100 people. Roads and parking spurs within the campground are paved; you'll find flush toilets and drinking water on site. If you need hookups, nearby resorts in the Fish Lake Basin (open Memorial Day through Labor Day) operate RV parks with hookups and provide supplies, boat rentals, marinas, fuel, groceries, laundry and showers. The lake is the main draw: Fish Lake is Utah's largest natural mountain lake at 2,500 acres and is well known for large Mackinaw (lake) trout in the 20 40 pound range, along with rainbow trout and splake boating, canoeing, swimming and scuba diving are common. Trails begin right from the campground: the 5-mile Pelican Canyon Trail climbs through meadows and dense spruce, pine and aspen up to the 11,633-foot Fish Lake Hightop, while the Lakeshore National Recreation Trail follows the eastern side of the lake and gains roughly 900 feet for broad water views. Johnson Valley Reservoir lies just north of Fish Lake for more fishing and boating options, and across Fishlake National Forest you'll find additional recreation opportunities biking, horse camping and riding, OHV routes, hunting, interpretive programs, a visitor center and wildlife viewing. For current fees, reservation rules and seasonal access details, check the U.S. Forest Service or recreation.gov before you go.
